Getting started

New to Picklr? Start here.

How do I create a Picklr account?

Open app.picklr.app in any browser, or download Picklr Lab from the App Store on iPhone or iPad. Tap Sign up and pick one of three options: Email and password, Continue with Apple, or Continue with Google. Email signups need a one-time confirmation — check your inbox and tap the link. After that you can start your first session immediately.

Is Picklr free?

Yes. Picklr is 100% free with no ads and no paywall. Every feature — auto-rotation, balanced matchmaking, live scoring, leaderboards, match history, cross-device cloud sync — is available to every user. There are no Pro tiers or premium features hidden behind a subscription.

What devices does Picklr work on?

Picklr runs on iPhone and iPad via the App Store (search Picklr Lab), in any web browser at app.picklr.app, and on Android via Google Play (search Picklr Lab). Your data syncs across every device you sign into.

Do I need internet to use Picklr?

Picklr is offline-first. Once you have loaded the app, you can run a full session without internet — score matches, add players, rotate courts. Everything saves locally first, then syncs to the cloud automatically when you reconnect. On the web you need internet once to load the page; the mobile apps work fully offline after install.

Can I install the web app like a native app?

Yes. On iPhone or iPad, open app.picklr.app in Safari, tap the Share button, then Add to Home Screen. On Android Chrome, tap the menu and choose Install app. On desktop Chrome or Edge, look for the install icon in the address bar. The installed PWA runs full-screen and works offline, just like the native app.

Players & roster

How do I add players?

Open the Players tab and tap Add Player. Enter their name and pick a skill level (Beginner, Intermediate, or Advanced). Optionally set gender (used by the Mixed Doubles mode) and a DUPR rating (used by Skill Separated mode).

Can I bulk-import players?

Yes. In the Add Player sheet, tap Reclub and paste a Reclub Members → Export CSV. Picklr auto-detects names, ratings, and gender so you can queue an entire roster in seconds. You can also paste plain names one per line.

How do I edit a player's information?

Tap the player in the Players list. Tap the pencil icon to edit name, skill level, gender, and DUPR rating. Save when done — changes sync across all your signed-in devices.

How do I remove a player?

Open the Players tab, enter Select mode, choose the players, and tap delete. To remove someone from just the current session (without deleting them from your roster), open the queue and tap Remove from queue on their row.

What does the gender field do?

Gender is used by Mixed Doubles matching to build 1 male + 1 female teams. It is optional — if you do not set it, the player still works in every other mode, they just cannot be paired by the Mixed Doubles rule.

What's the difference between Check-in and Remove from queue?

Check-in / Check-out is a quick toggle for who is currently on the floor — a checked-out player stays in your roster and the queue but is skipped by the matchmaker. Remove from queue takes the player out of this session entirely until you re-add them. Delete player permanently removes them from your roster across all sessions.

Sessions

How do I start a session?

From the Dashboard, tap Start Session. Give it a name (optional), pick a venue (or tap Use my current location to auto-tag GPS), choose a game mode (Doubles or Singles), pick a matching mode (Smart Auto, Mixed Doubles, Skill Separated, or First-Come First-Out), and optionally set a scheduled end time. Tap Start — Picklr opens with 2 courts by default; add or remove more later.

How do I end a session?

On the Dashboard, scroll to the active session card and tap End Session. Picklr saves a complete snapshot — every match, every player, the final leaderboard — that you can view later in History or resume from the Dashboard.

What happens to my data when a session ends?

All match results, player stats, and the final leaderboard are saved as a snapshot. You can view them on the Overall Leaderboard, browse them in Match History, share or save them as images, or resume the entire session from Pick up where you left off on the Dashboard.

Can I run multiple sessions at the same time?

Each account runs one active session at a time. Once you end one, you can immediately start another. If you need to track different groups or venues simultaneously, you can sign in to a second Picklr account.

My session disappeared from another device. Why?

All sessions and snapshots sync via the Picklr cloud. If something looks missing on another device, pull-to-refresh, or sign out and back in to force a fresh sync. Also check the top of the screen for an orange X changes couldn't sync banner — tap Retry now to flush stuck writes, which usually clears the issue.

Can I change matching mode mid-session?

Matching mode is currently set at session start. To switch, end the active session and start a new one with the mode you want. The matches you have already played are saved either way.

Queue & matchmaking

How does the queue work?

Players you add to the queue are eligible to play. The matchmaker picks the next 4 (or 2 for singles) based on the active matching mode, who has been waiting longest, and bracket alternation. You can drag-and-drop to reorder manually if you want to override the auto-pick.

What's the On Deck banner?

On Deck shows the next match the matchmaker has chosen, before you tap Start. It lists the players, the bracket type (Winners, Losers, Fresh, or Mixed), and a short reason — for example, "Losers play next — alternation keeps waits fair."

How does Set Partner work?

Tap Set Partner on a queue row to pair two players. They will always be on the same team when they play together. In Mixed Doubles you can only pair opposite-gender players (locked pairs override the rule). Tap Unpair to release them.

What is the wait-time cap?

A safety net for long waits. If any queued player has been waiting more than 20 minutes, the matchmaker forces the next match to include the 4 longest-waiting players, regardless of bracket. The On Deck banner labels this Wait Cap — Longest Waiting Plays. Nobody sits forever.

Why are losers piling up while winners keep playing?

When the same strong players keep winning, they cycle back as winners while the loser bracket grows. The Wait-Time Cap above handles the worst cases automatically. You can also manually drag a loser to the top of the queue, or use Set Partner to force a specific match.

What is the no-dilute rule?

When one bracket only has 3 players ready and the other side has 4, Picklr runs the full 4-player bracket first instead of borrowing one from the smaller side. This keeps brackets pure and avoids diluting Winners with Losers or vice versa.

Can I override the auto-picked match?

Yes. Drag any queue row to the top to force that player on next, or use Team Up to lock a specific 4-player match. The matchmaker resumes its normal logic on the match after that.

Matching modes

Pick the mode that matches your group.

What is Smart Auto mode?

The default. Smart Auto starts every player fresh, then alternates the Winners and Losers brackets so neither side stalls. Within each bracket it picks the longest-waiting players. Best for general open play.

What is Mixed Doubles mode?

Each team gets exactly 1 male + 1 female. Picklr picks 2 men + 2 women per match and splits them into mixed pairs. Players need gender set on their profile — without it, they are treated as wildcards. Locked pairs (Set Partner) override the gender rule.

What is Skill Separated mode?

Picklr sorts players by skill level (Beginner / Intermediate / Advanced or DUPR rating) and picks the top 4 of the same tier for each match. Use this when you want close, competitive games between players of similar level.

What is First-Come First-Out (FCFO)?

No bracket logic — the 4 longest-waiting players play next, in strict queue order. The simplest, most predictable rotation. Good for casual nights where fairness of wait time matters more than skill balance.

Does Picklr support singles?

Yes. Pick Singles as the game mode at session start. The matchmaker then picks 2 players per court instead of 4, and Mixed Doubles is disabled (since 1v1 has no team composition).

Matches & scoring

How do I score a match?

On the Courts tab, tap Score on the active match. Increment the score with the + buttons; Live View viewers see updates in real time. When the match ends, tap Pick Winner or End Match — Team N Wins.

How do I edit the score of a match I already ended?

Edit, fix, change, or correct the score of the most recent finished match by undoing it. Open the History tab, find the latest game at the top of Match History, and tap the Undo arrow on the right side of that row (next to the trash icon). Picklr asks you to confirm — tap Undo. The match goes back to its court at 0–0 with the same teams so you can re-score it cleanly. The leaderboard rolls back automatically. Note: only the most recent completed match can be edited this way.

I scored the wrong winner. How do I fix it?

Open the History tab and tap the Undo arrow on the latest game in Match History. Picklr asks you to confirm, then resets that match back to its court at 0–0 with the same teams so you can re-score (edit, fix, or change) it cleanly. The leaderboard rolls back automatically. Undo only works on the most recent completed match.

Why can't I delete a match from history?

Match History is append-only on purpose, to prevent accidental data loss. If a score was wrong, use Undo on the latest match to correct it. Match results drive leaderboard stats, so silently deleting matches would create inconsistencies.

How do timed matches work?

When starting a session you can optionally set a time limit per match. Each match then runs with a countdown; when time is up, Picklr prompts you to enter the final score and rotate. Useful on crowded nights where you want every game to fit within a fixed slot.

How does partner rotation work?

Picklr tries to avoid pairing the same two people back-to-back. If Alice and Bob were on the same team in the last match, the matchmaker will try to put them on opposite teams (or with different partners) in the next one. Locked pairs (Set Partner) always win over this rule.

Does Picklr announce match starts out loud?

Yes. Voice announcements (text-to-speech) call out the next match and the players. Toggle it under Settings → Voice. The app uses your device's built-in TTS, so the voice depends on your OS.

Leaderboard & stats

How is the leaderboard ranked?

Players are sorted by total wins first, with win rate as the tiebreaker. So 5W–3L (62%) ranks above 3W–0L (100%) because 5 wins is more wins, even at a lower percentage. This rewards consistent play, not 1-game wonders.

What's the difference between Session and Overall leaderboards?

Session shows stats from the currently active session only. Overall sums every completed session you have run. Tap a player on either tab to open their full stats card with record, streak, and recent matches.

How do I share a player's stats?

Tap any player on the Leaderboard to open their Stats Card. Tap Share to use the system share sheet, or Save Image to download a high-resolution PNG. The card shows wins, win rate, ranking, current streak, and recent results.

What is the win-streak indicator?

The fire emoji 🔥 next to a name means a winning streak — the number is consecutive wins. The snowflake ❄️ means a losing streak. The indicator resets the moment the trend reverses.

Leaderboard shows different numbers than Match History. Why?

This usually means some match writes haven't reached the cloud yet. Look for the orange X changes couldn't sync banner and tap Retry now. If it persists, screenshot the discrepancy and email emman@picklr.app so we can investigate.

Live View & sharing

What is Live View?

A read-only public link you can share so spectators — people watching but not playing — can follow scores in real time. They see live matches, the queue, and the leaderboard, but cannot edit anything.

How do I share Live View?

On the Dashboard, scroll to the active session and tap Live View. Tap Share Link to copy or open the system share sheet. Anyone with the link can view — no Picklr account needed.

How long does the Live View link stay active?

Until you end the session. After the session ends, viewers see Session Ended with the final stats. The link itself stays valid as a historical view.

Can I share a match result as an image?

Yes. Open Match History, tap Share on a match, then choose Save Image or Share. Picklr exports a branded PNG you can drop into a group chat or social post.

Sync & offline

How does cross-device sync work?

Sign in to the same account on every device. Sessions, players, matches, queue state, and saved snapshots all sync automatically — changes typically reach other devices within seconds via realtime push.

What does the orange "X changes couldn't sync" banner mean?

Some changes you made could not reach the cloud — usually a temporary network or server hiccup. Tap Retry now to flush them. If retries keep failing, tap Download backup to grab a JSON file of your local data as a safety copy before doing anything destructive.

Will I lose data if I close the app offline?

No. Picklr stores everything locally first (IndexedDB on web, app sandbox on mobile). When you come back online, queued changes flush to the cloud automatically. The orange banner appears only when something fails repeatedly.

How do I export my session data?

Open the active or past session and tap Export. You can save as CSV (spreadsheet-friendly) or JSON (full structured data). On web the file downloads to your Downloads folder; on mobile the share sheet opens.

Does Picklr back up my data automatically?

Yes. Every signed-in account is backed up to the Picklr cloud in real time. On session end, the app also runs an auto-export to local storage as a redundant safety copy you can recover from Settings → Backups.

Account & settings

How do I sign out?

Tap the menu in the top right → SettingsSign Out. Signing out only affects the current device — your other devices stay signed in so a session you started on the phone keeps running on the iPad.

How do I delete my account?

Settings → Account → Delete Account. This removes your account and all associated data within 30 days. You can also email emman@picklr.app to request deletion, or visit picklr.app/delete-account.

How do I change my password?

Tap Settings → Account → Reset Password. We email a reset link that opens inside the app. The link works for 1 hour.

How do I change my display name?

Settings → Account. Edit the Name field and tap Save. This is the name other Picklr users see on the leaderboard if they view your shared sessions.

Why does signing out on one device not log me out of the others?

Picklr uses local-scope sign-out so each device manages its own session. This way, signing out on web for testing does not kick you off your phone mid-match. To sign out of all devices, sign out on each one, or email emman@picklr.app to request a global revoke.

Troubleshooting

A player isn't showing up in my queue. Why?

Check three things: (1) the player is in your roster on the Players tab, (2) they are checked in (if check-in is enabled), and (3) they are not already playing on a court. The queue only shows players who are ready to play.

The app keeps trying to sync but failing

Pull-to-refresh first. If the orange banner shows stuck items: tap Download backup to save a copy of your data, then sign out and back in. The next sign-in pulls a fresh state from the cloud. If the problem persists, email support with the JSON backup attached and we can replay your data.

A Wait Cap match looked unbalanced. Is something broken?

No, this is by design. When a player has been waiting more than 20 minutes, Picklr prioritizes getting them on court over keeping the bracket pure. Once that match runs, normal Smart Auto bracket alternation resumes.

Voice announcements stopped working

Check Settings → Voice. The app uses your device's built-in text-to-speech. If voices are missing, your OS may need extra speech data — on iOS: Settings → Accessibility → Spoken Content → Voices; on Android: Settings → System → Languages → Text-to-speech output.

Location permission isn't working

On iOS: Settings → Picklr → Location → While Using the App. On Android: long-press the app icon → App info → Permissions → Location. Picklr only uses location to auto-tag the venue when you start a session — you can also type the venue manually if you prefer not to grant location.

I forgot my password

On the sign-in screen, tap Forgot password? and enter your email. We send a reset link that opens directly in the app. The link is valid for 1 hour. If it doesn't arrive, check spam — the sender is noreply@picklr.app.

I am still stuck — how do I get a human?

Email emman@picklr.app with a short description of the issue, what device you are on, and (if possible) a screenshot. We usually reply within 24 hours and most things get fixed in the same day.
